Woman Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries
The female victim stabbed repeatedly to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop in Birmingham has died, authorities verified.
The deceased woman, who was 34, was targeted on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 21:00 GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.
The suspect, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham court Monday morning, facing charges for the violent incident.
He was previously accused of attempted murder but following the woman's death charges were upgraded to murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
Authorities stated police personnel will remain around the city centre through Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.
Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who may have seen the accused, identified as British citizen of Black ethnicity, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers with a backpack.
Incident Location
The knife attack occurred outside the Bullring shopping centre, across from primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.
Law enforcement confirmed they classified it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating efforts continue to determine the motive behind.
Eyewitness Reports
An area worker, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity when she finished her shift at about 22:00 on Friday.
She described the scene as "quite chaotic", and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion at about 21:00.
"Many my colleagues take public transport, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk essentially, in the downtown area."
Another individual, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, mentioned visiting to Birmingham fairly regularly visiting his partner resident there, expressing concern regarding the incident.
"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.
"She doesn't drive and works at all of the big music venues... considering something completely unprovoked [happened], understandably, it's terrible."
