NFL Roundup: Broncos Mount Fourth-Quarter Comeback Versus Philadelphia, Baltimore Suffer Historic Home Loss
Broncos Overcome Eagles in Thrilling Finish
Bo Nix found a short touchdown pass and JK Dobbins added a two-yard ground touchdown in the final period as the Broncos overcame a two-touchdown disadvantage to deliver the Eagles their initial defeat of the campaign. Denver's defense batted down Jalen Hurts' final attempt on the game's concluding play to send the reigning title holders to just their second defeat in their last 22 games. Denver (three wins and two losses) caught a huge break in their comeback when the Philadelphia had a late fourth-down conversion nullified on an illegal shift penalty whistled against running back Saquon Barkley.
Texans Dominate Depleted Ravens in Record Win
Houston's quarterback threw for 244 passing yards and four touchdowns, and the Texans (two wins and three losses) cruised to a decisive victory over an injury-ravaged Ravens squad, matching both the biggest away victory in Texans' history and the worst home defeat in Ravens' history. Baltimore (one win and four losses) were without star signal-caller Jackson, and that was not their only problem. Defensive standouts Kyle Hamilton, Roquan Smith and Marlon Humphrey all missed the game, and the Baltimore already were depleted on that side of the ball because of a cervical issue that ended Nnamdi Madubuike's season. The Ravens were also missing All-Pro fullback Patrick Ricard and tackle Ronnie Stanley.
Colts Rout Raiders in One-Sided Affair
Jonathan Taylor ran for three rushing scores and a two-point conversion, and Daniel Jones threw two scoring throws as the Indianapolis Colts overwhelmed the Las Vegas Raiders. The 34-point margin was Indy's largest since 2013. Jones completed 20 passes out of 29 attempts for 212 yards and improved to 4-1 as a starter this year, exceeding his combined victory total over the previous two years with the Giants. The running back rushed 17 attempts for 66 yards and caught three passes for 20 yards. Indianapolis turned a blocked punt, two interceptions and a turnover on downs into touchdowns. The Raiders dropped to 4-1.
Dallas Cowboys 37-22 New York Jets
Dak Prescott passed for four touchdown passes, guiding the Cowboys to an easy victory over the Jets. The Cowboys put points on the board on two long marches in the second period, even with being without key linemen on the blocking unit. The running back ran for 135 yards and a touchdown and also hauled in a receiving touchdown. The Cowboys, now 2-2-1, bounced back from a 40-40 tie against Green Bay last week. New York are still without a victory at 0-5 in Aaron Glenn's inaugural year as head coach.
Vikings Edge Browns in London Thriller
Vikings receiver Jordan Addison grabbed a short touchdown pass from Carson Wentz with under half a minute remaining to give the Vikings a win over the Browns at the UK venue. The 10-play, 80-yard drive gave the Vikings (3-2) a crucial victory on their overseas journey, which began with a narrow defeat to the Pittsburgh in Ireland last week. This also marred Dillon Gabriel's debut as starter, as the Browns first-year player positioned his squad (1-4) in contention by passing for two scores. Fellow rookie Judkins gained 110 rushing yards on 23 attempts. Wentz shook off an arm issue that temporarily forced him out and directed two touchdown marches in the latter half.
Panthers Stage Epic Comeback Against Dolphins
Carolina's quarterback threw for two scores and Rico Dowdle ran for 206 rushing yards and a score as the Carolina Panthers rallied past the Dolphins in their home stadium. The quarterback's short pass to the first-year receiver with under two minutes to play gave the Carolina (2-3) the decisive advantage as they matched the largest comeback to win a game in team history by overcoming a 17-point hole. The QB had a poor start, but he ended up 19 completions on 30 attempts for 198 passing yards with one pick. Dowdle, filling in for the sidelined starter, did his damage on the ground on 23 carries, falling just short of matching the team's all-time rushing mark. Miami's quarterback completed 27 passes out of 36 for 256 yards with three scores and receiver Waddle accumulated 110 yards through the air on six receptions and scored a score, but the Dolphins (1-4) fell to zero wins and three losses in away contests.
Saints Secure First Win Under New Coach
New Orleans' quarterback passed for an 87-yard score to receiver Shaheed, safety Jordan Howden returned a fumble the length of the field for a score, and the Saints beat the error-prone Giants for the Saints' first victory under first-year head coach Moore. The QB earned his first victory in 11 career starts, throwing for 225 yards without a turnover. Giants rookie QB Dart, who won his first career start last Sunday, threw for 202 passing yards and two touchdowns, but also turned the ball over three times. The Giants gave up possession five times in all, none more costly than when Bryan Bresee stripped running back Cam Skattebo, leading to the safety's TD. Both teams are one win and four losses.
