Emergency operations are currently ongoing on the remote Tibetan slopes of Mount Everest, where a heavy blizzard has stranded around a thousand individuals in campsites on the east side of the peak.

Hundreds residents and response units have been dispatched to remove heavy snowfall blocking access to the region, which is located at an altitude of more than 16,000 feet.

Several tourists have already been rescued from the impacted site.

Intense snow began on Friday night and has worsened on the east side of Everest in the Tibetan region, an area popular with climbers and hikers.

Authorities confirm that tents had fallen due to the heavy snow, and a number of hikers were showing symptoms of exposure.

Admission tickets and access to the Mount Everest scenic zone have been temporarily stopped effective Saturday.

The area is undergoing harsh climate, with nearby Nepal being hit hard by torrential downpours that have triggered mudslides and flash floods, sweeping off crossings and claiming the lives of at least 47 people in the recent two-day period.

In the country, a severe weather system has come ashore, compelling around 150k individuals to relocate from their residences.

Everest is the world's highest peak at more than 29,032 feet. Even though numerous climbers seek to conquer the summit each year, it is regarded as an highly perilous hike.

In the last decade, it has been troubled by issues with over-tourism, ecological issues, and a series of tragic ascents.
